My advice to you all is to follow those who follow your competition.
for example, if I have a twitter account about mortgages, then it would be wise to follow people that follow another mortgage account.
For example, you can follow those who follow me http://twitter.com/mortgagecorner/followers
In addition stay away from following back those who do not have a real profile and don't seem to be a real person or business.
I read an interesting post by Perry Belcher - basically he said Twitter is based on the question "what are you doing". Our desire to know what other people are doing and to tell others what we're doing makes the whole twitter world go round.
How has social media worked for you? Do you have any tips for this group?
It has worked well, what you need to do is combine your outlets, have you posts here shared on facebook, your tweets should also automatically go there, on friendfeed, all over. Connect all networks so when you post, it goes to many places and you reach a lot more viewers.
